Bill Cosby announced Monday he has resigned from the board of trustees of Philadelphia's Temple University in the wake of 20 women accusing him of sexual assault.
The 77-year-old comedian issued a statement saying he resigned from the board of trustees at the school.
"I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students. As a result, I have tendered my resignation from the Temple University board of trustees," Cosby said in a statement.
Cosby served on the board since 1982.
Temple's board also issued a succinct statement in reaction to Cosby's decision.
"The board of trustees accepts Dr. Cosby's resignation from the board and thanks him for his service to the university," the statement read.
The move came just days after several other universities cut ties with Cosby. Boston's Berklee School of Music and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst have severed their relationships with him.
Additionally, High Point University in North Carolina is removing Cosby from its national board of advisers, and Freed-Hardeman University in Tennessee canceled his scheduled appearance at a December benefit dinner.
Cosby has now been accused by 20 women of raping, drugging, coercing or sexually assaulting them since 1965.
