Morocco's largest trade unions staged Wednesday a general strike in public and private stations to protest against government plans to reform pension law to either cut pension or increase premiums.
In a press statement, the unions said that the strike is a warning for the government to stop its continuous anti-people policies mainly the increase of commodities prices and tax.
They also accused the government of closing the door of communication and dialogue with trade unions and adopting unilateral approach in treating matters of national interests.
For its part, the government said it respects the right of workers to stage strikes, but it stressed that it will not tolerate any attempt to attack public facilities.
It reiterated commitment towards implementing the provisions of its agreement with the trade unions. It also clarified that no decision has been taken yet regarding the controversial pension reforms.
