Cars in the France.

The sale of vehicles rose by 2.5 percent to 168,827 in September compared to a month earlier mainly due to buoyant sales of foreign brands, figures released by the French Car Sales Federation (CCFA) showed Saturday.

Accounting for more than 55 percent of the domestic auto market, French car makers saw stable sales last month at 90,256 units.

PSA, France's leading auto manufacturer, sold 6.8 percent less new cars in September compared to the same month in 2015 while sales of Renault, the country's second leading auto maker, offered 45,343, up by 8.2 percent, according to the federation monthly report.

Foreign brands showed an upward trend and sold 78,571 new cars to the 66-million-strong French market from 74,556 cars last year.
