King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) and Japan Cooperation Center, Petroleum (JCCP) signed a joint contract today to conduct a collaborative research for the development of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts for high-olefins production. Dr. Mohammad Al-Homoud, KFUPM Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and Morihiro Yoshida, JCCP Managing Director (MD) signed the contract in the presence of Yasunori Morino, Minister, Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Japanese collaborators i.e. JX Nippon Research Institute, Ltd. (JX NRI) and JGC Catalysts and Chemicals ( JGC C&C). Dr. Al-Homoud said, “We are honored to sign yet another research contract with JCCP that will strengthen our research ties with Japan and enhance our mission in creating a research capability at KFUPM. I’m sure that results of this project will be beneficial to the petroleum refining industry in Saudi Arabia and Japan.” Dr. Sulaiman Al Khattaf, Director of Center for Refining & Petrochemicals at KFUPM, said that this three-year project will include exchange of knowledge and technical expertise between the University and JCCP in the development of catalytic processes for olefins production. The outcome of this research work was published in specialized scientific journals. For his part, Morihiro Yoshida, Managing Director at JCCP said that this project will contribute to an increase in production of olefin.
