Greece remains mired in a deep economic recession, official figures have confirmed Friday, according to AP. The country's statistics office says the Greek economy contracted by 6.9 percent in the second quarter of 2011 compared to the same period last year. In the first quarter, the Greek economy shrank 8.1 percent from the previous year but because the figures aren't seasonally adjusted, they're not directly comparable. The agency said lower domestic consumer spending contributed to the slowdown.
