Dakar - Anadolu
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency has donated around $3 million to support projects in Senegal, Turkey’s ambassador in Dakar has revealed.
Zeynep Sibel Algan told The Anadolu Agency on Monday that among the Turkish-supported projects, TIKA is building an orphanage and has already constructed a community health center for one local university in Senegal's capital.
Algan said that there are hundreds of other smaller projects that TIKA is carrying out at the request of different institutions.
She said that although other countries had agencies contributing to Senegalese projects, they generally concentrated in one field. Turkey’s TIKA works to fulfill the needs of the country in many fields, she said.
TIKA, established in 1992, operates projects in 120 countries.
Anadolu Agency’s Senegal office
Ambassador Algan described plans for the upcoming opening of Anadolu Agency’s Senegal office as a “very positive step.”
“Despite our opening policy, Africa is a largely unknown continent,” she said, adding that The Anadolu Agency will hopefully fill this gap.
AA plans to open offices in Senegal and South Africa. In May 2014, AA opened a new Ethiopian bureau, which is the agency's biggest in Africa after Cairo and Tunis.
As part of its Centennial Vision, AA has divided its global network into five main regions: Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia and the Caucasus and the Asia-Pacific area.
