The Ministry of Finance and National Economy signed Monday three agreements with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), including community reintegration programme for demobilized in Darfur at amount of 37.2 million dollars to reintegrate about 13,500 of ex-combatants.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance Mustafa Holy represented the Ministry of Finance and the UNDP Sudan Country Director Ms. Yvonne Helle signed for UNDP.
The two parties also signed an agreement on the Project of the Community Security and Reduction of Small arms in Darfur at a funding of $ 8 million dollars, to be implemented in two phases; the first starts in next October and to expire at the end of 2015 at a value of 4 million dollars and the second phase begins in January through December 2016 at the same remaining amount.
Holy explained that the project targeted 30 localities in the five Darfur states for 90,000 beneficiaries directly and indirectly.
An agreement was also signed with the United Nations Development Programme on financing the project on the insurance against the climate risks for the sustainability of the agricultural and pastoral sectors in Sudan at amount of 24.5 million dollars.
The Minister Labour Ishraga Sayid Mahmoud asserted importance of funding the programmes of reintegration and community Security in supporting the State's efforts to restore and sustain peace in the conflict-affected states, praising the efforts and programmes of the United Nations agencies in laying the foundations of peace in the country, commending the efforts of the commission of the disarmament, demobilization and re-integration in the domain of the stability of communities.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance stressed commitment of his ministry to achieve the strategic objectives in the domain of peace, pledging to extend material logistic support for the implementation of the agreements, calling for the beneficiary states to facilitate the means of implementation in the required speed and efficiency.
The Minister of Environment, Forests and Urban Development Hassan Abdal-Gadir Helal stressed concern of the government with the project of insurance against climate risks for the safety of the agricultural and pastoral sectors to avoid the risk of relying on rain.
Mis. Helle stressed UNDP concern in coordination with the national authorities to implement social peace-building and to provide the environment for the social stability in Darfur communities.
