President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting Monday with Agriculture Minister Adel al-Beltagy to discuss the ongoing negotiations with the World Bank to contribute to agricultural development projects in Egypt aiming at the reclamation of four million feddans.
The bank is ready to provide $ 500 million to Egypt to implement these projects, including the development project of field irrigation, spokesman for the Presidency Alaa yousef said.
The minister reviewed the executive steps of the first phase of agricultural development projects aiming at reclaiming one million feddans.
President Sisi underlined the importance of choosing the best areas for reclamation, stressing the necessity for drilling wells at the lowest cost.
He demanded the establishment of factories for agricultural products and packaging.
Sisi called for participation of all segments of society in these projects, mainly youths.
As for fisheries, Beltagy said his ministry is currently working on drafting a plan for developing fisheries.
At the end of the meeting, Beltagy presented the outcome of international meeting held in New York about the impact of climate on the genetic origins in the world.
