Iranian and Syrian officials in a meeting in Damascus discussed different ways to strengthen their bilateral relations in transportation and road industries. The issue was raised in a meeting between Iran\'s Ambassador to Syria Mohammad-Reza Raouf Sheybani and Syrian Minister of Transportation Fayssal Abbas on Tuesday. In the meeting the two sides discussed ways of strengthening bilateral ties in the fields of transportation and rail road connecting Iran, Iraq and Syria. Last week, Iran\'s Road and Urban Development Minister Ali Nikzad also held talks with the Syrian minister. Nikzad, who is heading Iranian side of joint economic commission, was in Damascus last week to attend the 9th session of the commission. Iran, Iraq and Syria plan to connect their rail roads with each other. Abbas referred to the strong ties between Syria and Iran, and underlined necessity of construction of rail road toward east of the country to be connected to the Iraqi and Iranian rail road. Sheybani, for his part, announced Iran\'s readiness to provide facilities for Syrian trucks and put technical know-how at the disposal of Syria to improve its transportation. Iran and Syria have forged an alliance ever since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the two countries\' officials exchange visits on a regular basis. The two countries enjoy strategic relations in a wide variety of fields.
