Egypt, UK discuss cooperation in transport field

Egyptian Transport Minister Saad el Giyoushy conferred Friday with British Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport Claire Perry on boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Giyoushy also discussed with Perry ways by which Egypt could benefit from Britain's know how in the field of transport.

Giyoushy signed with Perry a cooperation protocol to establish a college for tunnels and an authority for transport safety and port operation, said Transport Ministry spokesman Ahmed Ibrahim.

Egypt does not have specialists in tunnel construction despite the number of tunnels constructed in the country, Ibrahim said, adding that Giyoushy decided to establish a specialized college for the purpose.

The Egyptian minister also discussed benefiting from the British expertise in urban transport with the aim to improve services and ease congestion.

Giyoushy arrived in London on Tuesday on an official visit for talks on boosting bilateral cooperation in the transport sector and developing legislation related to the railway transport mechanism.
