The Borouge Innovation Centre has filed 520 patents of new creative products up to the end of September 2017, a top company executive has revealed.
''The Innovation Centre has so far obtained 122 patents. Borouge registered patents account for 30 percent of all patents registered in the World Intellectual Property Organisation database filed by UAE applicants,'' Ahmed Al Shamsi, the Senior Vice President for Regional, MEAE, at Borouge, said in a statement following the launch by Borealis and Borouge of Anteo, a new family of linear low density polyethylene, LLDPE, packaging grades for the global packaging market.
''Fifteen percent of the company's sales come from products developed by the Innovation Centre,'' he noted.
He added the company's shareholders had given the green light for the launch of Borouge 4 which is projected to go operational by 2023. ''Borouge 4 will increase the company production capacity to 11.4 million t/y from the current 4.5 million t/y.'' The AED550 million hi-tech facility serves as the focal point of innovation and research in the field of polymer development and application technology and provides value-added plastics solutions for customers worldwide, focusing on infrastructure, automotive and advanced packaging industries.
With more than 73 researchers, scientists and technicians, including more than 24 UAE nationals, the Borouge Innovation Centre works closely with the European innovation centres of Borealis.
