Minister of Social Welfare and Insurance Security, Amira Al-Fadail, met at the sideline of the fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York with the Permanent Envoy of the Nederland to the UN, in presence of Sudan’s permanent Envoy to the United Nations, Ambassador Dafallah Al-Hajj Ali. The meeting touched on the government’s arrangements to transport the Southern citizens to the State of South Sudan before the deadline agreed upon, on April 8. In this regard, the Minister explained that this issue is being addressed as part of the agreement signed between her Ministry and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs of South Sudan. She further revealed that the River Transport was suspended because the Government of South Sudan has seized all the barges that were used for transporting citizens to transport weapons. The Minister urged the Internationals Community and the Donors Countries to urge the Government of South Sudan to cooperate with the Government of Sudan in this connection. The Meeting also touched on the humanitarian situations in South Kordufan and Blue Nile States. She affirmed that the humanitarian situations are stable in Blue Nile State, explaining that the Government is studying a tripartite initiative by the United Nations, the Arab League and the African Union to deliver humanitarian assistance to the needy people in South Kordufan. Meanwhile, the Minister met the UN Women Executive Director Ms. Michelle Bachelet and reviewed with her means of boosting the relations between the UN-Women and the Ministry of Social Welfare in Sudan. She also stressed the necessity of upgrading the office of the UN-Women in Sudan. The Minister further briefed Ms. Michelle Bachelet on the Ministry’s project to development of women in rural areas in Sudan, affirming the necessity of speeding up the implementation of this project.
