The General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) took important steps to economically benefit from El Arish Port, the only Mediterranean port in North Sinai.

In a statement on Monday, the authority's spokesman, Nasser Fouad Amin, said that he paid a visit to the port today within the framework of making the most benefit of the port financially and practically.

This is the first visit by an official at the authority to El Arish Port after it became affiliated to the authority, the statement said.

It aims at standing on the financial and operational condition of the port in light of the authority's development plan of all its affiliated ports, the statement added.

Arish port is one of the most promising ports to export white cement, gypsum, gravel, edible salts (also known as table salts), in addition to pure silica sand used in glass industry, the statement said.

The port could also be used to import coal needed to operate factories, the statement added.

Arish port has several quays that serve more than 460 ships annually. The quay length is nearly 370 meters that allows it to receive ships with a length of 160 meters.

There are six ports affiliated to the authority, namely East Port Said, West Port Said, Adabiya, Ain Sukhna, El Arish and El Tour ports.
