The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will exhibit on Tuesday its green economy achievements at the 18th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2016, held under the theme 'Leadership in Sustainability'.
The three-day exhibition takes place on 4th and runs through until 6th October 2016 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Held by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, this annual event will feature the participation of the biggest international businesses to display the latest technologies of water, energy and environment worldwide.
Nasser Hamad Bu Shehab, CEO of RTA's Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector cum Chairman of RTA’s Energy & Green Economy Committee said, "Through its agencies & sectors, RTA assigns paramount importance to energy, water, environment, health and safety. Such attention is in line with its achievements in various projects and strategic initiatives. It contributes to fostering green & sustainable environment conforming to the plans of the UAE & Dubai as well as the highest international standards."
"This global annual event offers a platform for RTA to showcase its initiatives and strategic plans to nurture green & sustainable environment. To further promote this drive, RTA always seeks to improve water and energy efficiency in its own premises, transit modes and service delivery outlets," he added.
"We are well aware that the green economy plays a key role in nurturing a secure and sustainable future for humanity. Proliferating this concept among all sectors to enjoy its benefits depends largely on a number of factors. The UAE puts assiduous effort to turn this concept into reality in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program and a number of United Nations specialized agencies," concluded Bu Shehab.
During the past three years, RTA completed 45 projects and initiatives relating to energy & green economy, established the Green Economy Section under direct supervisions of Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department, as a reference for documenting all green projects and initiatives across RTA. It has adopted the world's best standards in green buildings and is planning to obtain LEED certification in Route 2020 Project, which will soon start. It also seeks to replace traditional street lighting by LED lights by 2030.
