Morocco’s annual automobile property tax

Revenue from Morocco’s annual automobile property tax, nicknamed “La Vignette,” has reached MAD 1.86 billion as of January, 2017.

On the deadline Tuesday for payment of La Vignette, , the General Tax Administration (DGI) announced that 1,876,371 vehicles’ taxes had paid in January.

According to the DGI, the payment rate showed an increase of 5.89% over the same period in 2016, when  revenue from the property tax reached MAD 1.76 billion.

The vignette payment could be still possible after the legal deadline, but with a mandatory fine of 10% in the first month without payment and 0.5% for each subsequent month.

In 2016, the DGI obtained nearly MAD 2.2 billion from the vignette payments, an increase of nearly MAD 340 million over 2015.
