Petroleum Minister Tarek el Mullah

Petroleum Minister Tarek el Mullah stressed on Sunday that Qattamiya area's needs of butane gas will be fully secured from the country's strategic reserves in the wake of the fire that hit a gas pipeline in upscale Cairo neighbourhood of New Cairo on Saturday.

The fire, that left one dead and ten others wounded, took place when a loader used in sewage system maintenance in the Cairo suburb accidentally crashed into the site of the pipeline, causing a huge fire.

In statements, the minister said the Petroleum Pipelines Company (PPC) is now repairing the broken pipeline and it is expected to be operational later in the day or earlier tomorrow at most.

The pipeline, that went operational in 1990, is used in transferring butane gas from Suez to butane gas filling centers in Mustard and Qattamiya.
