Abu Dhabi - WAM
Director of the Ministry’s Consumer Protection Department, Hashim Al Nuaimi, today noted that its was not possible to know the prices and specifications of some items at the Al Jubail Market in Sharjah.
He stressed the need for the market to comply with Article 5 of the Consumer Protection Act No. 24 of 2006 which states that information about products should be clearly displayed to consumer before purchases are made.
The official was speaking during an inspection tour to the market in the presence of officials.
The inspection came after the Ministry's recent announcement of a plan to monitor markets and enhance communication with consumers during the holy month of Ramadan.
Al Nuaimi stated that in cooperation with the specialised departments of ‘Ousoul,’ the company managing the Al Jubail Market, prices of basic items will be shown clearly at the entrance of the market.
He said that prices at the market did not show abusive practices although demand has increased.
He explained that prices of fruits and vegetables were still stable. Meat, poultry and fish were also available at stable prices, he added.
