A word-class market featuring 45 shops and 170 parking lots has been built and completed in Maliha area near Al Dhaid city, Sharjah’s Department of Public Works said.

Spread over an area of 3,300 square metres, the Dh10 million market, dubbed the New Juma Market, comes in line with the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to fulfil all requirements and needs of citizens, ensuring they have access to all service facilities and commercial and consumer services.

Eng. Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, head of the Department of Public Works in Sharjah, said the market will be a top destination for tourists and citizens alike and draw visitors from all seven emirates thanks to its unique geographical location — sitting midway from the east and west of Sharjah — besides its closeness to all cities. The market will have stalls for local produce such as fresh fruits and vegetables while also promoting the pottery and carpet industries.

Projects like Juma Market represent an investment opportunity for private sector developers and contribute to improving neighbourhoods and residential areas, Al Suwaidi added.

Mohammed Bin Yaaruf, branch manager, said the state-of-the-art ‘Juma Market’ has been built based on international specifications and includes 45 shops, each of which extends over an area of 60 square metres. The shops were designed in a unique and harmonious style and are equipped with all safety and security requirements. The market also includes separate prayer rooms for men and women, ablution places and wash rooms.

Bin Yaaruf added that the project was carefully planned and designed after extensive studies of all requirements
