Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab

The economic ministerial committee held a meeting Wednesday under Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab.

During the meeting, attended by a host of ministers and the Central Bank of Egypt governor, the electricity minister tackled the most important terms of an initial agreement between the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company and Germany's Siemens, that is scheduled to be signed during President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Germany.

The agreement is expected to add about 4,400 megawatts by 2017, the minister said, adding that three electricity stations will be established in Beni Suef, New Cairo and Borollos with a total capacity of about 13,200 megawatts.

The agreement also includes organizing a training program for 500 persons in Germany and 1,000 others in Egypt in order to prepare qualified cadres to manage the planned stations, he added.

The prime minister, meanwhile, called for raising state of emergency in the electricity sector during the current high temperature wave in Egypt.
