Jordanian energy Minister: Jordan attaches great importance to new gas discoveries in Egypt

Jordanian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ibrahim Seif said that Jordan attaches great importance to new gas discoveries in Egypt.

In statements to MENA on Monday before leaving for Cairo on a two-day official visit, the minister said he will discuss with Egyptian Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Tareq el Mulla the production of the new natural gas fields in Egypt, topped by Zohr field, the largest natural gas discovery in the Mediterranean Sea, and the revision of agreements signed between the two countries in this domain.

The main aim of the visit is discussing bilateral cooperation in the natural gas field, Seif added.

Asked how Egypt could benefit from Sheikh Sabah LNG Port in Aqaba, the minister said there is wide coordination between Egypt and Jordan in this regard, adding Amman will offer all facilities to Cairo if it needs to use the port.

Shifting to the issue of the Aqaba/Basra oil pipeline project, Seif said this important issue will be discussed with the Egyptian minister during their talks.

On November 15, 2015, Egypt, Iraq and Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation among the three countries in the oil and gas field.
