Cairo - MENA
Nour Party leading member Mohamed Ibrahim Mansour hailed on Friday efforts exerted by the Egyptian people to establish the New Suez Canal according to a plan set a year earlier, saying, it is the starting point for the Suez Canal area development project.
According to the politician, the Salafi party launched a promotional campaign for the inaugural ceremony, he said.
The campaign included hanging banners and signs on streets to remind the people with the great achievement, he said.
A new hashtag with the name of the project "#NewSuezCanal" was created by the party members to be shared on social media websites, he added.
He called for accelerating the pace to carry out the axis development mega project as soon as possible.
Egypt will inaugurate the New Suez Canal on August 6, which will massively increase the capacity of the existing canal and offer an important chance to boost the country’s struggling economy.
Called the Suez Canal Corridor, the 72-kilometer new project involves a 37-kilometer new waterway and deepening and expansion of the existing 145-year-old Suez Canal along a 35-kilometer stretch.
The project, estimated to have cost about $8.5bn, aims at expanding the Suez Canal region's role as a global, industrial, and logistics center that is environmentally balanced with an integrated economy.
It is also projected to become a global hub due to its logistics and industrial services.
