Cairo - MENA
Egypt Post decided to supersede postal savings books with ATMs in post offices in all governorates nationwide as of October in course.
Such decision has been taken after the success of the experimental process held in Cairo and Giza post offices in August.
In a statement on Thursday, Egypt Post Board chairman Essam el Saghir said the measure is meant to ditch paper-based system and replace it with ATMs.
Egypt post has set a plan to provide post offices with additional ATMs to mitigate crowds, el Saghir noted.
As many as 410,000 ATM cards have been issued within the framework of applying financial inclusion criteria, el Saghir stated.
Egypt post is now working on contacting its clients via SMS to encourage them to obtain their ATM cards to benefit from the advantages these cards can provide, el Saghir pointed out.
The decision comes within the framework of Egypt post’s plan to transfer its paper-based system to an electronic one, el Saghir added.
