Shoppers at some of the emirate’s biggest malls will get the chance to show off their artistic side and help a good cause this month.
They will be able to try their hand at a life-size version of the popular board game Pictionary at Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, and Me’aisem and Al Shindagha malls.
There will be prizes and some of the best drawings will be turned into soft toys to go to needy children at home and abroad.
“It will be a big hit with the public and the fact that we are working with the Red Crescent means it is all for a good cause as well," said Mohammed Al Jasmi, the mall manager at Mirdif.
Players work in teams of two, with a total of four teams taking part at any one time. The artist takes their place behind the drawing tablet and the guesser is on the board and ready to move around the squares.
A dice is thrown and the guesser moves the required number of squares. If they land on a sponsored square they win a prize.
The games master then matches the coloured squares to a set of categories and the drawer is given a word and 40 seconds to draw the item.
The faster the guesser answers during the 40 seconds, the more points they get. The players then switch roles.
After two rounds the winning team gets Dh500 in mall gift cards.
Businesswoman Aimee Changco, 40, from Singapore, was impressed at the scale of the game.
“They have really brought it to life," she said after playing at City Centre Mirdif.
“I’ve played the board game before so I knew what to expect but competing against other teams like this added to the excitement.
“I had to draw lighting so it wasn’t too difficult and my team member got it easily.
“It’s great that they are also helping the Red Crescent with this initiative and I’m sure it will prove popular."
The game is open to anyone who has spent Dh300 or more in the malls. To play, shoppers show their receipts at customer service desks to get tokens.
The game will run from May 16 to May 30.
