The Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) denied news circulated by several media outlets on raising the prices of cigarettes and tobacco, claiming that the government imposed new excise tax on them. 

In a report issued on Thursday, the center refuted as "baseless" the news.

The center urged media outlets to verify the authenticity of their sources and to contact parties concerned, including the Finance Ministry, before circulating such news.
