The Alexandria Port Authority decided on Saturday to close the Alexandria and Dekheila straits over bad weather and high wind velocity.

The decision is meant to prevent any collision of ships and ensure safety of maritime navigation, said the authority's spokesman Red Ghandour said in statements on Saturday.

Heavy rains would continue for five days in Alexandria.
