Nigeria's main opposition party on Thursday chose former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari to challenge Goodluck Jonathan in next year's presidential elections.
The 71-year-old beat four other candidates to win the nomination for the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a party convention in the financial capital, Lagos.
"Congratulations General Buhari. The delegates have spoken, you fully deserve the victory," his most prominent challenger, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, said on Twitter.
