The EU launched Thursday an in-depth probe into the 3.4-billion-euro acquisition of Spanish telecom company Jazztel by French giant Orange to see if distorts the market and restricts customer choice.
The $4.2 billion deal would cut the number of telecoms companies in Spain to three from four while the new entity would be able to "exert significant competitive pressure" on the two remaining firms, Telefonica and Vodafone, the European Commission said.
