The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb has expressed his willingness to help all institutions working to promote moderate Islam, adding that Islam needs people who can present its correct image to the world .El Tayeb’s statements were made during a meeting with the Director General of the Union of Islamic Organisations in France, Ahmed Gab-Allah and a delegation from the Union. The delegation praised the role of Al-Azhar in both internal and international arenas, stressing the need for the leading Islamic institution to resume its effective role in Egyptian society, particularly during this current phase of democratic change. They said Al-Azhar oversees the studies of the French institution encouraging it to practice moderate Islam. Tayeb also praised the cultural and scientific role performed by the centre, stressing the importance of promoting the right understanding of moderate Islam.
