A group of leaders from Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) have translated 'God’s Women Then and Now' by Deborah Menken Gill and Barbara Liddle Cavaness into Finnish. This is the first resource that CBE has made available in Finnish. 'God’s Women Then and Now' was translated at the request of CBE’s members in Finland. “Our partners have long reported that there have not been any solid egalitarian resources in Finnish,” reports Elizabeth Beyer, CBE’s bookstore coordinator. “Translating titles such as 'God’s Women Then and Now' helps Christians around the world engage in the discussion around the shared leadership of women in the church within their own communities.” 'God’s Women Then and Now' will provide Finnish Christians with a thorough exegetical treatment of what has become a hot button topic in many Christian circles: women in leadership in the church. So far, 'God’s Women Then and Now' has been distributed to 777 pastors at a recent conference in Finland for use in congregational settings. It was also used in panel discussions on the issues and questions concerning women in the church. 'God’s Women Then and Now' explores the biblical passages that address the authority and leadership of women and demonstrates that patriarchal interpretations are not accurate. Lesson topics include views of male and femaleness in the Old and New Testaments; the Greco-Roman, Jewish and Christian contexts; Jesus’ treatment of women; husband-wife relationships; and passages from 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy that often launch heated discussions concerning woman’s authority in the church.
