A lack of preparation will tarnish your reputation. It's possible you weren't given enough time, information and resources to do justice to a project. Rather than getting defensive, stay calm. Listen to the criticisms that are heaped on you. After demonstrating you are receptive to feedback, you can respond to critics. You'll change hearts and minds when your audience realises you have been turned into a scapegoat. You've never shied away from hard work. It doesn't make sense you would drop the ball with such an important assignment.
