Your colleagues won't be helpful. Don't rely on them to get ahead. If you are facing an impending deadline, you'll have to work overtime to finish it. Are you looking for work? You could finally land a position, but it won't be permanent. Instead of dwelling on your disappointment, count your blessings. Having a temporary position with steady hours will allow you to make plans with friends and catch up on errands. There's also the added benefit of earning a regular paycheque.
