The Madrid-based Casa Arabe (Arab House) held a ceremony Friday evening to honor the renowned Kuwaiti Poet Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain for his role in spreading Arab culture. The honoring came a day after Al-Babtain was granted an honorary doctorate from the prestigious University of Cordoba (UCO) in appreciation of his role in promoting Arabic language and culture as well as dialogue among civilizations. In a speech on this occasion, Al-Babtain shed light on the main achievements of his cultural life and the Foundation of Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain's Prize for Poetic Creativity which was founded in 1989 to honor talented Arab poets and promote Arabic culture in non-Arabic speaking countries. He read one of his most famous poems to the audience. Al-Babtain expressed gratitude for the Casa Arabe's honoring and lauded its role in teaching Arab culture and language to non-Arab Spanish people. A galaxy of Arab and Spanish poets, artists, intellectuals and Kuwait's Ambassador to Spain Suleiman Al-Harbi were present at the honoring ceremony.
