A total of 188 houses in the West Java Provincial District of Ciamis was damaged due to the impact of the 6.9-magnitude quake on Friday night.
The quake hit southern parts of West and Central Java, including Yogyakarta and East Java.
"According to a report that I received from the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) until midday (Saturday), a total of 188 houses were damaged due to last night quake in Ciamis," secretary of the West Java provincial government, Iwa Karniwa, noted here on Saturday.
Of the 188 houses, 50 houses were seriously damaged, 83 houses were moderately damaged, and 55 houses were slightly damaged. About 200 people were evacuated to Pamarican sub-district.
Meanwhile, in Pangandaran District, 33 houses were seriously damaged, 20 houses were moderately damaged, and 38 houses slightly damaged. A police post was also damaged.
In Tasikmalaya District, 109 houses were damaged, Karniwa stated, adding that the impact of the quake also destroyed other buildings, including two hospitals, namely RS Singaparna and RSUD Dr Soekarjo, as well as a Senior High School SMKN 3 Tasikmalaya.
The epicenter of the quake was 42 kilometers southwest of Kawalu, West Java, at a depth of 107 kilometers. The quake had the potential to cause a tsunami in West and Central Java and Yogyakarta, but the tsunami warning was lifted at 2 a.m
