The State of Qatar takes part in the 37th UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)\'s 37th biennial conference taking place in Rome from 25 June - 2 July. HE the Minister of Environment Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Aboud Al Me\'\'edadi, who heads Qatar\'s delegation to the Conference, has held a meeting on the sidelines of the event with the Iranian Minister of Agriculture Mohammad-Reza Eskandari. The meeting discussed means of enhancing bilateral agriculture and food security cooperation. It was attended by HE the Qatari Ambassador to Italy Sultan Al Muraikhi. HE Al Me\'edadi also held talks with the Indonesian President\'s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Dr. Alwi Shihab on bilateral ties between the two countries and means of enhancing them. The current session on Sunday elected Jose Graziano da Silva from Brazil as new Director-General of FAO by 92 votes to 88. He will succeed Senegalese Jacques Diouf and begin his term of office from Jan. 1 2012. The Conference discusses the State of Food and Agriculture and the role of women in agricultural development. It will also approve FAO\'\'s budget for 2012-13. Founded in 1945, FAO is one of the largest specialized agencies of the UN. Its main goal is to efficiently support FAO’s mandate of achieving a food-secure world by raising levels of nutrition, improving agricultural productivity, bettering the lives of rural populations and contributing to the growth of the world economy
