A flash flood in Nigeria took at least one life when it gushed into a street market in the capital of Benue State, officials said. A downpour lasting more than seven hours triggered the flood in the city of Makurdi where the Wurukum International Market was inundated, causing significant damage to vendors and killing a 15-year-old boy. Leadership Newspapers in Abuja said Sunday that traders and their customers blamed the state government for the damage, claiming a better bridge or culvert around the market site has been needed for a long time.
