Dave Edwards today insisted immediate promotion must be Wolves’ aim under new boss Stale Solbakken. Owner Steve Morgan said last week that the Norwegian coach doesn’t have to return Wolves to the Premier League immediately. West Ham beat Blackpool 2-1 in the Championship play-off final on Saturday to become the only club relegated from the top flight last season to win promotion. And Edwards believes the pressure will be on for Wolves to follow the Hammers because of the size of the club. “Our aim has got to be promotion because this is a huge club with great fans and everything is in place for us to bounce straight back,” said the Wales international. “We need a good start to next season and then hopefully that momentum can carry us through.” Edwards also believes Wolves can shake off the negativity of relegation and get off to a flying start. “It’s really important to get off to a good start – teams who have gone down in the past have had a bit of a hangover at the start of the season,” he said. “We’ve really got to get out of the blocks quickly.” Steven Fletcher is being chased by seven or eight Premier League clubs and Edwards called for Solbakken to sort out the transfer activity before the players return on July 9. “I’d imagine there will be players coming in and leaving,” he said. “I’m sure players will go to Premier League clubs and there will be lads looking to get away . The new manager will probably bring in his own players too. Hopefully we can get it all sorted before we come back.”
