Libya's Presidential Council (PC) and prime minister-designate Fayez Al Sarraj

Relations between Egypt and Libya are close, said head of Libya's Presidential Council (PC) and prime minister-designate Fayez Al Sarraj.

Speaking with El Sharq el Awsat newspaper on the occasion of his visit to France, Sarraj said Libyan officials are in constant contact with the Egyptian government to find solutions to the Libyan crisis.

The Egyptian leadership is very cooperative. It could have some security concerns but still it understands what Libya is going through, he added.

He added that his government began measures to lift the ban on arms imports, making clear that approval for importing arms would be given on an individual basis and according to strict measures.

Also, efforts are underway to form a new government, saying it will be presented to the parliament within the coming weeks to gain confidence.

Sarraj said he is ready to let Commander Khalifa Haftar, who controls the north African country’s main oil ports, join the new government but provided that Haftar's military authority would be put under the premier's civil authority.
