Egyptian parliamentarian Hesham Al Sheeni

Legalization of Egypt’s agricultural land is one of the major issues that attracted the attention of many people in the country during the recent period, amid demands of reconciliation with squatters to provide financial sources to the country in the light of the current economic position.
Egyptian parliamentarian Hesham Al Sheeni, Head of Agriculture Committee in Egypt’s House of Representatives, stressed the importance of the parliamentary role in this regard, saying that the country will witness a breakthrough in this issue as soon as possible.
He expressed his support for the idea of reconciliation, stressing that such a step will support the country’s budget with 50 to 70 billion EGP. He added that they exert increasing efforts to resolve this crisis to ensure the rights of farmers in their lands and to ensure the rights of the Egyptian state in the price of these lands.
The Egyptian parliamentarian praised the idea to cultivate wheat crop twice a year, describing it as a serious step aiming to achieve self-sufficiency of wheat, stressing the need for such steps to contain the increasing importation during the current critical period in which the country needs to save the hard currency.
He stressed that Egypt will manage to achieve self-sufficiency from wheat in the coming 3 to 5 years, calling the Egyptian government to determine the price of wheat to be attracting to the farmers and to push them to cultivate wheat.
He added that his committee will cooperate with the Ministries of agriculture, Supply and Irrigation during the coming period to generalize the experience in all over the country, while he warned of the project’s failure if the government did not put suitable price for the wheat.
