German forward Dirk Nowitzki passed Moses Malone for seventh place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, lifting Dallas to a 96-88 overtime victory over Brooklyn.
Nowitzki passed Malone with a three-pointer late in overtime on Monday, punctuating a dominant extra period for Dallas.
The Mavs overcame a meltdown late in regulation to grab their sixth straight win, ending their Eastern Conference road trip 3-0.
Nowitzki had tied Malone (27,409) for seventh place on the scoring list with 12 points in regulation.
He passed the Hall of Famer with his three-pointer with 34.8 seconds remaining in overtime.
Nowitzki's total of 27,412 points are 1,184 from Shaquille O'Neal's 28,596 in sixth place on the all-time list.
Nowitzki became the highest-scoring international-born player in NBA history in November, when he passed Nigeria-born Hakeem Olajuwon for ninth-place on the all-time scoring list.
The German star, who was the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2007 and helped spark Dallas to the 2011 NBA title, re-signed with the Mavericks in July.
Dallas improved to 11-0 on the road this season against Eastern Conference teams.
They remain in a virtual tie for first place in the Southwest Division with the Memphis Grizzlies, who beat the slumping New York Knicks 105-83 on Monday.
