World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has been given the top seed for the US Open, the last of four grand slam tennis tournaments which begins in less than a week. Denmark's Wozniacki is also the top seed in this week's WTA Tour New Haven Open. She begins her title quest with a first-round match against Polona Hercog. Two-time reigning US Open champion Kim Clijsters recently announced she would miss the event with a stomach muscle injury. American veteran Serena Williams has been seeded 28th for the US Open. The 13-time Grand Slam winner has been on a hot streak lately but missed almost a year with injuries. Williams has three US Open titles and recently won back-to-back tournaments in Toronto and California. Her world ranking has skyrocketed from 175th in July to 29th this week. The US Open runs from August 29-September 11.
