No. 3-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka survived a tough three-set challenge Wednesday in second-round play of the Aircel Chennai Open tennis tournament tin India. Wawrinka, playing his first match of the year, defeated Edouard Roger-Vasselin 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a match that took nearly 2 1/2 hours. Wawrinka lost his serve three times in the first set but only faced one break point after that. He had a pair of breaks in each of the last two sets to advance to the quarterfinals against qualifier Go Soeda. Soeda continued his strong season-opening play with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 upset of fifth-seeded Ivan Dodig. Soeda won a solid 68 percent of the points on serve and had a service break in each set in the win. Fourth-seeded Milos Raonic, who like Wawrinka had a first-round bye, had no problems in a 6-1, 6-4 win over Victor Hanescu. Raonic saved all four of the break points he faced and won about three-quarters of the points when serving. Dudi Sela was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 winner over Benoit Paire in Wednesday\'s other second-round match. He will play Raonic in the quarterfinals.
