- The Peruvian press was united in joy on Monday as it highlighted the "historic" triumph on Sunday, where Peru beat Brazil in the Copa America Centenario by 1-0.

One headlined praised "the Hand of Ruidiaz", referring to the player who scored a controversial goal with his hand, emulating the goal scored by Argentina's Diego Maradona against England in the 1986 World Cup, later dubbed "the Hand of God."

The hero of the hour in Peru, and likely a villain in Brazil, was forward Raul Ruidiaz, who drove the ball into the net with his right arm on the 74th minute.

The goal, which the Brazilian team vociferously called to be disallowed, was eventually allowed by Uruguayan referee, Andres Cunha.

This result saw Peru go through to the quarter-finals from Group B, after being Haiti 1-0 and drawing 2-2 with Ecuador, while Brazil has been eliminated.
