Keith Appling was one of four Michigan State starters in double figures Friday and the No. 19 Spartans coasted to a 70-51 victory over Oakland. Michigan State won its fourth in a row after opening the season with a four-point loss to Connecticut in a game played on an American military base in Germany. Appling scored 20 points and had six rebounds, Adreian Payne added 15 for the Spartans and both Derrick Nix and Denzel Valentine had 10. Michigan State shot 53 percent from the field and owned a 13-point halftime lead. Oakland (2-3) was led by Duke Mondy with 16 points. The Golden Grizzlies made only 16-of-58 field goal tries.
