Admitted drug cheat Melky Cabrera has been slapped with a 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy. Major League Baseball’s commissioners office announced on Wednesday that the San Francisco Giants outfielde has tested positive for testosterone. Cabrera is having his best season in the majors with a .346 batting average, 11 homers and 60 runs batted in. Cabrera admitted using performance-enhancing drugs and said he would not appeal the suspension. “I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Programme and I will try to move on with my life.” The Giants signed Cabrera to a one-year deal in January after he was acquired from Kansas City in a trade.
