Fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic topped Yen Hsun-Lu in straight sets Tuesday to advance to the third round at the Western-and-Southern Open. Berdych served eight aces against his Taiwanese opponent and won 30-of-38 first-serve points en route to a 6-3, 6-4 win and a third-round match against Canadian Milos Raonic. Raonic ousted Richard Gasquet of France 7-6, 6-3. Mardy Fish, the No. 10 seed, used 11 aces to blow by Spain\'s Feliciano Lopez 6-2, 6-3 on the hard courts at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Sixteenth-seeded Andy Roddick was taken out by French lucky-loser Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 (a lucky loser loses a match, but is let back into the tournament when another player withdraws). Roddick was leading 2-1 in the second set when he was tended to by a trainer for an apparent back problem.
