Australia won the toss and chose to bat in the second Ashes Test against England at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. The tourists made two changes from the Brisbane Test loss following the departure of number three batsman Jonathan Trott with a stress-related illness. Joe Root was elevated to Trott's spot at first wicket down and England gave Durham allrounder Ben Stokes his first Test cap, which was presented to him by former captain Andrew Strauss before play. Monty Panesar was also included in a twin-spin attack with Graeme Swann on a dry pitch which is expected to take turn later in the match. Australia named an unchanged side with James Faulkner as 12th man. Skipper Michael Clarke will be looking to post a big first-innings total to put the pressure on England, who will be trying to avoid falling 2-0 down in the series ahead of next week's third Perth Test. The Adelaide drop-in pitch was covered prior to the start after morning rain, but the game began under sunny skies. Australia won the first Test in the five-Test in Brisbane by 381 runs.
