Qatar’s brand new cricket stadium in Industrial Area looks equipped to host One-Day Internationals (ODI) in the future, a top Asian Cricket Council (ACC) official said recently. “The stadium looks good to host an ODI,” Bandula Warnapura, the ACC Development Manager said. “The stadium is fantastic, I must say ... one of the best I have seen in this region,” the former Sri Lankan Test skipper added. Mr. Mohammad Ahmad Shahid, Board Member of the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) said “The Emir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Heir Apparent, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, lay great emphasis on promoting sports the right way. It is because of their vision that Qatar has become the sports hub of the region,” “Doha has world-class sports facilities. The city hosts some of the world’s famous events regularly. Clearly, the Qatari capital is the place to be for all sports fans,” he added. “Even the success at the London Olympic Games is the result of the sports vision of the Emir,\" Manzoor Ahmed, QCA Secretary General said. “We give a profound thanks to support given to us by HH the Emir, HH the Heir Apparent, Chairman of Qatar Cricket Association and Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani, and the QOC Secretary General Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in developing cricket.
