Belgian jockey Toon van den Troost steered German horse Terach El Samawi to a superb win in the Wathba Stud Farm Cup race held at the Duindigt race course in The Hague in The Netherlands on Sunday. While Athlete de Sol started as the one to beat in the 13-horse field, it was Terach El Samawi which was guided into a good position midway through the 9-furlong race and then went on to win from Senankh BA with the favourite running into third place. German owner Regine Weissmeier El Samawi said the horse was given the family name and it lived up with the win on Sunday. The Wathba Stud Farm series of races is part of the Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival. The German raider is now expected to take part in all the Wathba Cup races to be staged in Europe, according to the owner. Abdulla Al Qubaisi, director of communications of ADACH, Lara Sawaya, director of Shaikh Mansour Festival, Adnan Sultan Al Nuaimi, director-general of the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and Wieger Joost de Ruiter, chairman of the Dutch Arabian Horse Society presented the cup and trophies to the winning owners, trainers and jockeys.
