Kuwait's Al-Arabi ended their participation in the Arab Clubs' Handball Championship on a high note, picking up a 26-24 win over Iraqi side, Al-Jaish on Tuesday while compatriots Salmiyah will play for third.
Al-Arabi exit the tournament in seventh place with two wins and a draw out of six games.
Speaking after the game, chief club delegate Salman Boland said that the results were "generally decent" when taking into account the absence of three key players, due to study and job obligations.
"This is the chronic problem sports and sports clubs in Kuwait are suffering from," he complained, referring to the amateur status for local sportsmen across the country.
Staff member Abdulhadi Ghadanfari agreed that the results are "decent in light of the available options." Meanwhile, fellow Kuwaiti side Salmiyah are set for a decisive game on Wednesday that will determine third place against AS Teboulba of Tunisia, as Tunisia's El Makarem de Mahdia and Bahrain's Al-Ahli prepare to battle it out for the title.
The regional club competition, which included 10 men's sides and six sides for women, ends on Wednesday.
