Chairman of Food Safety Authority Hassan Mansour reveled in a special interview with “Arabs Today” that, there are kinds of food in Egypt which is completely neither observed nor healthy due to lack of data, stressing the need for an organized observation process.

He added that slaughtering poultry and buying uncovered meat are unacceptable habits that could cause severe damages.

He congratulated the Egyptians on the parliamentary approval of the authority establishment, describing this move as a historic. He added, “We do not know the source of 90 percent of Egypt’s food, as we lack the mechanisms of information, while the new bill will provide these mechanisms. It will gather all authorities concerned to food safety under one umbrella.”

He praised the decision to increase customs fees on the imported goods, saying that it is the perfect opportunity to increase domestic production.
 
He added that the food sectors in Egypt are controlled by over 50 legislations, opening the door to blame others and leads to the spread of many diseases inside the sectors. Saying that we need to hurry with implementing this bill to guarantee a place with the developed countries.
 
He said, “Food Safety Authority is the only authorized body to conduct inspection on domestic or imported foods using the proper equipment.
 
He concluded that all Chambers of Commerce and Chamber of Food Industries must participate in the process without encroaching the validities of the authority.
